Use Connections & imports to manage the publishing and history inputs for the selected publication. The publication name appears in the page header so you can check the scope before making a change.

Overview

The page is split into three sections:

  • Publishing platform: connect beehiiv or Kit for the newsletter you actively publish

  • Past issue sources: add one or more public archives or RSS feeds to teach HeyNews from older issues

  • File imports: request an import from a CSV or another newsletter export

Each section shows what is already connected and gives you the relevant add or import action.

beehiiv and Kit connections are for active newsletters. A connection for another newsletter belongs in a separate HeyNews publication. Past issue sources and file imports add history to the publication you're already working in, and one publication can have several of them.

Connected accounts

For each connected platform, you'll see:

  • Account/publication name

  • Connection status

  • Newsletter issues imported

  • Latest sync result

  • Remove button

For beehiiv and Kit, select View past issues below the imported count to open Voice & past issues > Past issues for the same publication.

Adding connections

Click Connect in any section:

  • beehiiv: paste your API key, check it, and select a publication

  • beehiiv draft publishing: approve the OAuth connection, then choose which beehiiv publication belongs to the current HeyNews publication

  • Kit: click "Connect with Kit" and approve the account for the selected Publication

  • Past issue source: paste your public archive or RSS URL and HeyNews will find your past issues

  • File import: request help with a CSV or another export

If a completed archive check finds no usable issues, HeyNews says so. Check that the URL points to the newsletter's RSS feed or public issue archive, then reconnect with the correct URL.

The beehiiv publishing connection does not create drafts until you select a beehiiv publication. You can change that selection later. Reconnecting the OAuth account clears the previous selection, so HeyNews asks you to choose again instead of risking a draft in the wrong publication. To update or retry an existing beehiiv Draft, select the beehiiv publication where that Draft was created. HeyNews won't update or retry it while another beehiiv publication is selected.

When beehiiv has confirmed draft access, select Use for new provider drafts. If you connected beehiiv before this option was available, your Publication Owner or Admin needs to select it once. Until then, the beehiiv Draft action stays hidden, even if your account is already connected. Each publication has one Sending Connection. Selecting a different ready provider changes the Sending Connection. When Kit is selected, Draft Review offers Create draft in Kit where that option has been turned on. The Connection you switch away from stays connected and keeps its history and performance data. Connecting or reconnecting a provider never changes this choice for you. Publication Owners and Admins can change or clear the selection, and Editors can use it. Editors can also see whether Kit needs assignment or reconnection, but only an Owner or Admin can take those actions.

An older Kit Connection may need to be assigned to the current Publication. Select Assign to this Publication on its Kit account card. If the old grant does not confirm draft access, select Reconnect Kit next. Past issue imports and performance history remain available while the Connection is unassigned. The same Kit account cannot be assigned to another Publication.

Once it is connected, open a saved Draft in Draft Review and select Create draft in beehiiv or Create draft in Kit. You see only the action for your selected, ready Sending Connection. HeyNews creates an unsent draft only. Review and send it in beehiiv or Kit. If HeyNews cannot confirm whether the draft was created, check your publishing platform before trying again so you do not create a duplicate.

Removing connections

Click Remove on a connected account and confirm. Stories that HeyNews already found stay in your account, but HeyNews stops checking that connection for new content.

Removing a Kit connection also asks Kit to uninstall HeyNews from that account. If Kit does not confirm, HeyNews still removes the connection and tells you to remove the app from your Kit settings.

If you remove HeyNews from Kit first, HeyNews removes the connection the next time it contacts Kit. Connections & imports then explains why it stopped working and offers Connect Kit. Your saved stories remain available.

If you want to retire an entire publication, go to Publications and archive it from there. Archived publications can be restored for 30 days. See Publication settings for details. Archiving also asks Kit to uninstall HeyNews for that publication's Kit connection. If you restore the publication, reconnect Kit to use it again.

Returning from Kit

When you connect Kit, HeyNews sends you to Kit so you can approve access. After that, Kit brings you back to HeyNews. If it works, you'll see a success message. If not, HeyNews tells you what went wrong.
