Changing your User Email

You can change your User Email from Account settings > Security when the option is available for your account. If it is not shown, contact [email protected].

  1. Enter the new email address. If you signed up with Google, select Continue with Google and sign in again. Otherwise, enter your current password.

  2. Open the verification code sent to the new address.

  3. Enter the code in Security to finish the change.

Your current email stays active until you verify the new one. You can keep signing in with it while the change is pending. If the code does not arrive, you can resend it after a short wait, or cancel the change and start again. After the change, HeyNews sends a security notice to the previous email address. That notice does not need a response.

If account deletion is active, HeyNews will not start or finish an email change. Finish or cancel the deletion request before changing your User Email. This keeps the email address attached to your deletion verification code from changing halfway through the request.

Exporting your data

Publication Owners can request one ZIP containing their profile and data from every Publication they own.

  1. Go to Account settings > Security

  2. Find Your data export

  3. Click Request data export

  4. You can leave the page and keep working elsewhere. HeyNews emails you when the archive is ready.

  5. Return to Your data export and click Download export

The archive includes organized data files for your Publications, AI Writers, Voice Profiles, Style Rules, Reusable Links, Sources, Stories, Issues, Drafts, Voice Training material, and a summary of your plan. It also includes an index you can read without any technical setup, plus readable copies of your Issues and Drafts.

Exports remain available for 7 days. The download action requires you to be signed in. Request a new export whenever you need a current copy.

Changing your password

  1. Go to Account settings > Security

  2. Enter your current password

  3. Enter your new password. It needs at least 8 characters, uppercase and lowercase letters, a number, and a special character.

  4. Confirm the new password

  5. Click Update Password

Setting a password for the first time

If you created your account with Google, or you have only ever signed in with a magic link, you may not have a current password to type. Use a recovery code instead.

  1. Go to Account settings > Security

  2. Under Change Password, click Set a password with a recovery code

  3. Check the destination shown on the page for the 6-digit code.

  4. Enter that code, then the password you want to use, and confirm it

  5. Click Set Password

The code expires after a while. If it does, or if it never arrives, click Send a new code and use the newest one.

Once your password is set, you can still sign in with a magic link or with Google. Setting one adds an option, it does not take the others away.

If you see a message asking you to contact support, your account is one of a small number that cannot set a password from this page. Email us and we will set it up for you.

Account deletion

HeyNews is rolling out self-serve account deletion from Account settings > Security. If you see Delete Account, the app will show what will be removed before you continue.

Before you delete your account, request and download Your data export from this page if you need a copy. Account deletion is permanent. If you have an active subscription, deleting your account cancels your subscription immediately and signs you out after the request starts.

Deleting your account also removes your access to Publications you joined and cancels invitations sent to your email. Signing up again later with the same email does not restore that access. Invitations sent to other people remain with any Publication that is not deleted.

The deletion flow asks you to:

  1. Review the publications, connections, subscription, saved history, and in-progress work that will be removed or canceled

  2. Confirm each destructive change

  3. Enter the account deletion verification code sent to your email

  4. Type the final confirmation word shown in the app

After the request starts, HeyNews shows a request ID and signs you out. Keep that request ID in case you need to contact support.

If you do not see the in-app deletion option yet, email [email protected].

If you only want to retire one publication, go to Publications in the sidebar and archive that publication instead. Archived publications can be restored for 30 days before they are permanently deleted.

Account deletion removes your newsletter connections and:

  • Your user account

  • Your publications

  • Your newsletter drafts

  • Your saved history, sources, and stories

  • All AI Writers

  • Your connected integrations

It also removes your profile from the marketing, analytics, and session-recording tools HeyNews uses, so none of them can still identify you. Payment and invoice records stay with our payment provider, because tax and accounting law requires us to keep them.

If you need a written record of what was deleted and what was kept, email [email protected] with your request ID and ask for a deletion certificate.

This action cannot be undone.

Data and privacy

  • HeyNews does not store your password where our team can read it.

  • beehiiv API keys and Kit connection tokens are encrypted before storage and never shown back in the app.

  • beehiiv OAuth tokens used for draft publishing are also encrypted and are revoked during permanent account deletion. Drafts already created in beehiiv remain in beehiiv because the connection does not provide a delete-draft action.

  • Kit lets you approve the connection without sharing your Kit password with HeyNews.

  • You can revoke access anytime from Connections & imports in HeyNews or from your platform's own app settings.
